A massive fire broke out at Gaur Green Avenue, in Abhay Khand, Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, as fire brigade rushed to rescue.

Per reports, the blaze gutted at least 8 flats of the 15-floor high-rise and has spread from the 9th to the 13th floors. Ajit Anjum, a Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awardee (2010) who stays on the adjacent floor in the society, shared several updates via videos of the intensity of the inferno that engulfed the flats. In one of the videos, neighbors are seen trying to douse the blaze with a regular garden hose pipe! As seen in a few viral videos, the fire brigade was unable to splash water due to insufficient height.

The cause of the fire has not been established yet, but speculations are rife that due to a short circuit, there was an explosion in one of the ACs in the building.

Per the latest reports, firefighters are in the gutted floors, trying to curb further devastation. No casualties have been reported.

Calling out the incompetence in handling the blaze, renowned journalist Ravish Kumar remarked,

(Seven to eight flats have been burned from one end. Next to them is Mr. Ajit’s house. The flames had reached there as well. After the arrival of the high-rise ladder, the jets of water are reaching the flats. Below, a large number of people are standing helpless and stunned.)

RJ Sayema quipped

(This is the state of our fire department. So many flats caught in the fire in Ghaziabad, and there’s no other means for the administration to extinguish the fire? This is the society of senior journalist @ajitanjum, and in this video, hear in his voice how dire the condition of our emergency facilities is.)

Remarking on the risks of a high-rise apartment, one user wrote on X/Twitter

Living in high-rise buildings is far riskier than living in an independent house. Elevators can fail. Fires may not be controlled in time, along with other hazards. I would never choose a high-rise over an independent house.
