Ghaziabad News:  Protests erupted in Ghaziabad days after a minor was sexually abused by the van driver of a private school, who was subsequently arrested by the police last week. The protestors, comprising parents and residents, demanded action against the school administration on Tuesday, alleging attempts to bury the case by the principal and others.
A five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused by a van driver for over a week before the victim opened up and told her mother about the abuse. The driver of the SD Global School, who was reportedly hired by the institution, was arrested and booked by city police under section 65 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the POCSO Act for penetrative sexual assault against a minor.
The police said that the minor was a prep student and was harassed for over one week before the matter was disclosed. Though only the van driver (identity withheld to protect the identity of the victim) was initially booked by the police, several others- school principal, Dr Jyotsna Sharma, coordinator Ritu Batra, and transport supervisors Nitesh Tomar and Deepanshu were also made accused in the case.

However, the protestors led by BJP leader Satyam Pandit, demanded further strict action against the school and urged the administration to seal the premises. The parents of the victim also flagged the negligence of the school in the matter, asking who was responsible for the safety of the students if the van belonged to the school?
“We send our children to school on the understanding that the school will be responsible for the safety of children. My child is in a state of shock and I am not sending her to that school again,” the girl’s father said.

Ghaziabad Minor Sexual Abuse Case

According to a Hindustan Times report, the driver always used to pick up the minor first and drop her off the last after school hours.
“During these times, my child used to be alone in the van and the driver used to sexually abuse her. About six to seven students travel daily in the van. The incident with my daughter has been going on for the past almost one week and we got to know of it only when we saw injuries on her genital area. We approached the police and got an FIR registered. The van belongs to the school and the school authorities did not contact us even after the driver was arrested on Thursday,” the girl’s father said.
